Comments: variable growth habit, often upright to columnar; male and female flowers on separate plants; found on dry mountain slopes and mesas; berry-like fruit important food for small mammals and birds. "Wichita Blue" is an attractive variety.

Warnings: Be careful if planting as street tree. There are several instances (such as outside City Hall) where the tree base hangs out over the street and/or sidewalk.
