The city planted a 'Celebration' Maple. A heavy duty grate will protect the tree and the public.
1 - 2) Salomon Archuleta and Jeremy Arellano free girdling roots from the very root-bound 'Celebration' Maple. 3) Thick circling roots had to be cut -- if left in place they could choke the tree in a few years as they'll just keep circling. 4) Salomon spreads the roots out. Recently an old stump was ground out of the area leaving the soil loose, so a large hole wasn't necessday. 5) Bolting the tree grate together. 6) Tree grate is flush with sidewalk. The maple should be fairly oval in shape.
